When installing TRIAX EoC, there are a couple of things you might want to investigate before the actual installation. The system itself is very easy to install and configure, but depending on the existing coax installation, the result may vary in the end.

This article is about the IP networking aspects upon the installation.


The TRIAX EoC system is a layer 2 device. The EoC system acts as a managed switch would, supporting VLAN, IGMP snooping and the media conversion from ethernet to coax and vice versa. This means, that the IP part of the installation must be handled by a router, this includes the DHCP functionality!


Router

Depending on the installation, the router must meet some requirements. If the installation demands several VLANs with different IP scopes on the VLANs, then the router must be capable to assign IP accordingly. Furthermore must the router support NAT or a firewall must handle the NAT functionality.

For remote access, we will recommend a router, that supports VPN.


VLANs

When expanding an existing IP network with the TRIAX EoC system, then you must get an overview of the needed VLANs.

If there is no existing IP network, determine the needed VLANs by looking at the number of needed WiFi SSIDs. You will be needing 1 VLAN per SSID (not per endpoint necessarily).
