When creating content in Microsoft PowerPoint (especially Office365) for the In Touch Digital Signage, it is very important to ensure the powerpoint software does not compress the images.
This small guide will help achieve better results when creating content for the Digital Signage platform.
Turn off compression in PowerPoint
1. Click File > Options.
2. In the Options box, click Advanced.
3. In the list at Image Size and Quality, do one of the following. (This example shows the options in Word.)
Ignore the drop-down list to select your current document by default.
Click the list arrow and select the file that you want to turn off picture compression for.
Choose All New Documents (applies to Word only) to turn off picture compression on all future documents.
4. Under Image Size and Quality, select the 'Do not compress images' in the file checkbox. This setting applies to only the document that you selected in the Image Size and Quality list unless you also select All New Documents.
Set up your slides
1. First, you got to set up your slides inside PowerPoint to be of a specific size. On the ribbon, choose the DESIGN tab and then, SLIDE SIZE.
2. When the dialogue box opens, enter the numbers as the picture shows below.
3. You should enter the numbers below, according to your preferred output resolution. The format is followed by the width and height.
- 4K: 50.8 x 28.576
- 8K: 101.6 x 57.152
Or inverse the width and height to create presentations in portrait instead of landscape. Although for general compatibility, the landscape is proposed.
4. Save your work and exit PowerPoint.
Configure registry settings
1. While on Windows, press WIN + R on your keyboard to invoke the “Run” application.
2. Type “regedit” in the field and press OK.
3. In the Registry Editor that opens, you need to go to this address: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\PowerPoint\Options
4. Choose to edit, or create if it isn’t there already, the Registry Key “ExportBitmapResolution”.
Attention: The actual address that you need to follow at the Registry Editor, depends on the version of Microsoft Office that you have installed. Please consult your administrator or an online resource to find out which is the correct address, as, if you change values on a different address, this output resolution fix will not work as expected.
5. Then you double-click the “ExportBitmapResolution” key and change the value to 192 - Don’t forget to have this value type set always as “Decimal”.
6. Press OK and close the Registry Editor.
Export to Image
You can now start again your PowerPoint and when you choose to export an image file for one or all your slides, they will be rendered in high definition quality, suitable for any screen size you may find.
