The EMC (Endpoint Media converter) are often mounted on the backside of a TV set and powered via USB.
In these scenarios, the EMC might be powered off when the TV is powered off, ie. when a guest leaves a room and removes the keycard.
What will happen, if an EMC are in the middle of a software update and the power is removed?
The SW package of the EMC is smaller than the one for the EPC and EPE, which means the update time is much shorter than that of the EPC and EPE.
Also, the sequence is much simpler and can be completed in one safe operation. The total sequence is ~60 seconds of which the majority of time is loading the image from the controller and onto the memory of the EMC. During this sequence, the EMC will be operational.
The EMC will reboot and after 20 seconds be operational again. Naturally – if EMC’s in the system is not powered – the SW upgrade will not be able to complete and as an installer, you will not be able to confirm update of all EMC is complete. In that case – the update of the EMC will start when the room is eventually powered.
The guest will experience a somewhat longer startup time of up to 60 seconds, other than that the update of individual EMC can be left to complete gradually as the rooms are being powered until the full system is updated.
