This article will introduce the diagnostics features that were implemented in sw3.1.

The new diagnostics tool is fully functional on both Rev. A & rev. B controllers.

Diagnostics are located under the Dashboard, which now is divided into two panels.

  1. Overview: General overview of connected endpoints and clients.
  2. Diagnostics: RF-specific data and graphs.

Overview holds the same information that the dashboard did prior to sw3.1.

Diagnostics contain information in RF-connected endpoints. The info is RF-based and includes a graph similar to the one in the TNA tool.

Getting started

Before the diagnostics tool can be used the endpoints need to have a valid IPv4 address assigned from either the controller itself or from a DHCP server,

In this example, we will use the controller and assign IP addresses from the "Configuration 0" VLAN.

To get started with diagnostics, please follow the guide below:

  1. Disable "DHCP Provisioning" under "Configuration" -> "1. General"
  2. Set a static IP address on the "Configuration 0" VLAN under "Configuration" -> "2. Network".
  3. Enable DHCP server on the "Configuration 0" VLAN.
  4. Save and apply the settings.
  5. Reboot the controller.

Diagnostics

When all endpoints have an IPv4 address assigned, diagnostics are now possible and available for each endpoint.

Values under diagnostics are colour-coded to reflect the conditions on the individual endpoint.

Please see the below table for reference.

The diagnostics dashboard displays endpoints connected to the actual controller that is coax based. This means no EPE endpoints will be visible on the page.

The endpoints are ordered based on the endpoint name.

Each endpoint row holds key values for a quick overview on:

  • Connected EoC port
  • Cable/wire length
  • Link speed (colour-coded)
  • SNR (colour-coded)
  • FEC (colour-coded)
  • ReTx (colour-coded)

Each row is expandable by clicking on the small arrow on the right side.

Only one row can be expanded at the same time.

Endpoint details

The expansion of the endpoint reveals detailed information on RF data but also shows a graph.

  1. Endpoint-specific data. Data can be expanded for further details. Values are colour-coded.
  2. Controller-specific data for the actual endpoint. Data can be expanded for further details. Values are colour-coded.
  3. Legend and control bar for the graph. It is possible to toggle graphs on/off by clicking on the names.
  4. The actual values displayed in the graph are based on the settings in the control bar.
